Privacy policy

This explains what Chef Dan’s recipe and garden box (“the app”) collects, why, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

Account: your email address, and the nickname, avatar and country you choose.
Your content: recipes, ratings and reviews, shopping lists, budget and spending entries, garden setup, plant check-ups (including a small thumbnail of a plant photo), meal plans and settings.
Chat and groups: messages you send and receive, your contacts, blocks, and groups you belong to.
Sharing choices: who you share your recipe box with.
Whether you’re online: only if you choose “Visible to other cooks”, and only while the app is open.
Reports you make, and content reported to us.
Basic technical data such as sign-in sessions. We don’t run advertising or sell your information.

How we use it

To run the app: sign you in, save and show your content, deliver messages, and share recipes with the people you choose.
To keep people safe: handle reports and blocks, remove content that breaks the rules, and suspend or remove accounts.
To provide AI features: when you use them, the text or photos you submit are sent to an AI provider to produce a result (see below).

Who can see what

Your recipes are private to you, unless you share your box with a contact or group. Then those people can see your recipes (read-only) until you stop sharing.
Other users can see your nickname and avatar only if you’re visible, connected to them, or in a group with them. They can’t see your email address.
Your shopping list, budget, garden, plant check-ups and settings are private to you.
The app owner can see all recipes stored in the app and reports made to them, and can remove content. Private chats are not read except where a message is reported.

Service providers

Your data is stored with Supabase (database and sign-in, hosted in Sydney, Australia) and the app runs on Vercel. When you use AI features, the content you submit may be processed by AI providers such as Google (Gemini), Groq, OpenRouter, Mistral and NVIDIA. These providers handle data under their own terms and may process it outside Australia.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account is open. You can delete your account any time in More → Settings → Delete my account. That permanently removes your profile, recipes, lists, budget, garden data, messages you sent, groups you own and sharing settings. Reports about your conduct may be kept where needed to keep others safe. Deleting your account can’t be undone.

Your choices

Switch off “Visible to other cooks” in Settings to be hidden and not shown as online.
Stop sharing, remove a contact, block someone or leave a group at any time.
Ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you by emailing us.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and you shouldn’t create an account if you are.
